Eligibility

Each year, a minimum of $1,000 will be awarded annually to assist at least one deserving African American male student in attaining his educational goals. Applicants must be U.S. citizens or permanent residents, African American males and current Gwynn Park High School, Laurel High School, or Mayo High School for Math, Science and Technology graduating seniors at the time of their application.

Applicants will be considered and evaluated based on academic merit; leadership potential; social responsibility, including school and community involvement; talent qualities in the arts; and financial need.

Application Deadline

April 20th - postmarked. If April 20th falls on a Saturday or Sunday, applications should be postmarked by the following Monday.

Application materials must be submitted in one packet. Transcripts and letters of recommendation should not be sent under separate cover. SAT scores must be included on the application at the time it is mailed. Late or incomplete applications will be not considered.

The recipient(s) is selected in the spring by the Scholarship Committee based on the information contained in their application packet.

Scholarship Conditions

The recipient(s) may use the scholarship to pursue a Bachelor’s degree at any accredited four-year institution or an Associate’s degree at any accredited two-year institution. The scholarship may be used toward the payment of tuition, academic fees, room, board, or the purchase of required materials and books. The student must have verification of admittance from the college or university he plans to attend (i.e., letter of acceptance).
